Job summary

HEB Construction is seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to lead environmental and sustainability performance across the Waitohi Ferry Redevelopment Project in Picton, New Zealand. Reporting to the Project Director, you will ensure compliance, environmental excellence and positive outcomes across all delivery stages.

This fixed-term role until 2029 requires strong leadership, practical problem-solving and a collaborative approach with regulators, iwi, consultants and contractors to drive

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Planning, Ecology or related discipline.
• Strong experience in environmental management within construction, infrastructure or similar industry.
• Proven success managing consent compliance and environmental risk.
• Experience leading teams and coordinating specialist consultants and contractors.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
• A practical, solutions-focused approach with the ability to influence project teams and drive positive outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental management and compliance across the project.
• Drive implementation and continuous improvement of environmental management systems.
• Manage consent obligations, environmental monitoring, audits and reporting.
• Build strong relationships with clients, regulators, iwi, consultants and project stakeholders.
• Coordinate ecological and specialist environmental programmes.
• Lead environmental incident investigations and risk management activities.
• Drive sustainability initiatives and environmental best practice across project operations.
• Mentor and develop a team of environmental professionals and specialists.
