Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a proactive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer to support operations around Queenstown with a hybrid work arrangement. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations in the oil and gas sector, developing and monitoring EHS programs to minimize risks.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or OH&S, has at least 3 years in an EHS role, and demonstrates strong risk assessment and incident

  • Minimum 3 years in an EHS role in heavy industry.
  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and best practices.
  • Experience with risk assessment and incident investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure safety compliance.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses; prepare detailed reports and corrective actions.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer to join their team, supporting operations in and around Queenstown with a hybrid work arrangement. This role is essential for ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations within the oil and gas industry . You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring EHS programs to minimize risks and promote a safe working environment for all employees and contractors. The ideal candidate is a champion for safety and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement EHS policies, procedures, and training programs in line with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
  • Manage environmental impact assessments and ensure adherence to environmental permits and regulations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain EHS records, prepare reports for regulatory bodies, and track key performance indicators.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an EHS role , preferably in the oil and gas or related heavy industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant EHS legislation and best practices.
  • Strong skills in risk assessment, incident investigation, and emergency response planning.
  • Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring and reporting is a plus.
