Job summary

Auckland Council is seeking an experienced investigator to protect the environment and community by investigating breaches across multiple acts and bylaws. You will lead complex cases, coordinate with internal and external partners, and potentially pursue prosecution when warranted.

Strong communication, evidence handling, and PEACE interviewing are essential. This is a full-time, on-site role with on-call requirements.

Qualifications

• Investigative and regulatory compliance skills are key to this role and will include higher-level enforcement action including experience in prosecution.
• A natural self-starter with highly developed written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
• Good PEACE interviewing skills and knowledge of evidence handling, investigation, prosecution case files, and court procedure.

Responsibilities

• Investigate complaints relating to breaches under the Building Act, Resource Management Act, and Auckland Council Bylaws.
• Engage in enforcement actions up to prosecution and coordinate with multi-agency partners.
• Communicate findings clearly in reports and to stakeholders, and manage competing demands while maintaining high standards.
