Competitive salary + great benefits!

We’re seeking a motivated Environment Manager to lead environmental management and compliance across our forestry estate and operations in the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough regions.

This is a key role that sits at the intersection of forestry operations, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement. You'll work closely with operational teams, contractors, regulators, iwi and industry partners to ensure our forests are managed responsibly, sustainably and in line with environmental expectations.

About us

OneFortyOne NZ manages 80,000 hectares of land across a stunning landscape at the top of the south. This includes a 62,000-hectare production of tree crops and over 10,000 hectares of native vegetation.

You’ll be based in our brand-new Richmond office — an engineered timber building right beside the Great Taste Trail, with views across vineyards to Mount Arthur. Coffee, sunshine, trails and forests: all right on your doorstep.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Legal & Compliance, you'll play a key role in ensuring our environmental management systems, certification programmes and compliance activities support the sustainable management of our forests while maintaining our social licence to operate. You'll work closely with operational teams, contractors, regulators, iwi, community groups and industry stakeholders to drive environmental performance and compliance across the business.

Key responsibilities
  • Drive continuous improvement in environmental performance across our forestry operations.
  • Maintain and improve environmental management systems, policies and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, resource consents and certification requirements; lead certification processes.
  • Provide practical environmental support and advice to operational teams and contractors.
  • Lead environmental monitoring, audits, investigations and reporting.
  • Build strong relationships with councils, iwi, government agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Manage environmental and ecological projects that support business objectives.
About you

To succeed in this role, you’ll combine sound technical knowledge with excellent relationship management and practical problem-solving skills.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in forestry, environmental science, planning, geography or a related discipline, and/or equivalent industry experience.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, compliance and regulatory frameworks.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships and credibility with a wide range of stakeholders and influence outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound judgement and the confidence to make decisions in complex situations.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A current New Zealand driver's licence.
  • Forestry experience would be advantageous, particularly experience with plantation forestry operations, certification standards, environmental compliance or resource management processes. However, we also welcome applications from highly experienced environmental professionals as well as individuals who bring relevant qualifications, knowledge and transferable experience.

  • Competitive salary to match your skills and experience
  • Fantastic benefits including life insurance, income protection, annual volunteer days and branded clothing to name a few
