Job summary

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland is seeking an entry level Laboratory Assistant for the Anatomical Pathology team at the Mt Wellington site. This full-time, permanent position offers extensive training and development to support high-quality patient care in a busy laboratory environment.

You will assist with specimen handling, block management, filing and stock control while working collaboratively with experienced pathologists and laboratory staff.

Qualifications

• You will have excellent communications and people skills, basic computer skills and the ability to adapt to a busy workplace.
• Previous histology experience is preferred but not essential as comprehensive training will be given.
• Strong attention to detail with a can do attitude to work in a fast-paced and busy environment.

Responsibilities

• Filing, archiving and retrieval of pathology blocks and slides
• Assisting with specimen receipt, transport, tracking and storage
• Stock ordering and stock takes
• Maintaining clean, safe and organised work areas
• Supporting audits, quality activities and accreditation requirements
• Maintaining accurate records and documentation
• Working collaboratively with laboratory colleagues
