NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect, Customer and Digital to lead architecture across our Customer and Digital technology domains. You will define long-term technology direction and influence investment decisions to enable scalable, customer‑centred digital services.
Working with product, delivery and technology teams, you will shape platforms, capabilities and wider technology landscape that support NZTA’s customer‑facing products.
Digital services play a critical role in how NZTA | Waka Kotahi connects with customers, delivers services and shares information with New Zealanders.
We are looking for an experienced Enterprise Architect, Customer and Digital to lead the architecture direction across our Customer and Digital technology domains.
This is a strategic architecture leadership role responsible for defining long-term technology direction, influencing investment decisions and ensuring our digital capabilities evolve in a coherent, scalable and sustainable way.
Working across architecture, product, delivery and technology communities, you will help shape the platforms, capabilities and wider technology landscape supporting NZTA’s customer-focused digital products and services.
This role sits at the intersection of customer outcomes, digital enablement and enterprise technology strategy. Rather than designing individual solutions, you will establish the strategic technology direction and architectural framework that enable modern, consistent and customer-centred digital experiences.
Success will come from balancing innovation, customer needs and delivery priorities with long-term sustainability and enterprise alignment.
You can find out more about the role in the Position Description.
You will be an experienced architecture leader who combines strong technology expertise with a clear understanding of customer outcomes and digital service delivery.
You will be comfortable working across organisational and technology boundaries, navigating competing priorities and providing clear direction where there is complexity or uncertainty.
You will also demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to develop an understanding of, Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to develop an appreciation of, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within the public service.
The Chief Technology Office (CTO) is a strategic business enabler within NZTA, providing the digital skills, capabilities, platforms and leadership needed to support our operational performance, regulatory responsibilities and future transport vision.
The CTO helps ensure our digital investments, platforms and services align with organisational priorities and deliver value across NZTA. It plays an important role in enabling efficient service delivery, improving customer experience, managing risk and supporting long-term planning.
As part of Te Aukaha | Digital, you'll contribute to improving our services and decision-making and providing modern, fit-for-purpose digital, information and technology solutions for our people, partners and customers.
You'll be part of an Architecture function that is strengthening its enterprise role, building greater capability to look across NZTA, establish clear direction and enable delivery through stronger standards, patterns and guardrails.
This is an opportunity to influence the future of how NZTA delivers digital experiences and services to customers across New Zealand.
You will help shape the technology direction for some of NZTA’s most visible digital capabilities, working alongside product, delivery, architecture and technology leaders to ensure digital investments deliver sustainable long-term value.
If you are passionate about customer outcomes, digital strategy and architecture leadership, we would love to hear from you.
