Job summary

Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities is seeking a strategic Enterprise Architect to connect business strategy with technology direction across a national-scale transformation. You will lead architecture governance, security practices and reference architectures, partnering with senior leaders to deliver sustainable, cost-effective technology outcomes.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate, influence, and build credibility with senior leaders in large, complex organisations (NZ public sector)
• Strong understanding of business models, operating models, and factors driving transformation
• Experience creating business capabilities, value streams, roadmaps, reference architectures, and operating models
• Significant experience delivering enterprise-wide change within government or large organisations
• Knowledge of AoG frameworks and standards (e.g., GEA-NZ, TOGAF, ArchiMate, COBIT, ITIL, ISO, NIST, NZISM, PSR)
• Experience applying enterprise architecture frameworks in practice
• Business acumen and understanding of investments, priorities and financial drivers
• Coaching and mentoring architects and project teams to achieve outcomes
• Fosters innovation, continuous improvement, and architectural maturity
• Ability to connect business strategy with technology direction across contexts

We're looking for a strategic and influential Enterprise Architect who can connect business strategy with technology direction and drive meaningful organisational change. You’ll be experienced in working with senior leaders, guiding transformational initiatives, and playing a key role in building mature, future-focused architecture practice.

Here’s what you will bring to the role:

• A proven ability to communicate, influence, and build credibility with senior business and technology leaders in large, complex organisations
• Strong understanding of business models, operating models, and the factors that drive organisational performance and transformation
• Demonstrated experience developing business capabilities, value streams, business processes, digital and technology strategies, technology roadmaps, reference architectures, and organisational operating models
• Significant experience delivering enterprise-wide change within government or other large, complex organisations
• Knowledge of industry and All-of-Government (AoG) frameworks, methodologies, and standards, including GEA-NZ, TOGAF, ArchiMate, COBIT, ITIL, ISO standards, NIST, NZISM, and the Protective Security Requirements (PSR)
• Experience applying recognised enterprise architecture frameworks and patterns in practice
• Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of the financial drivers that influence organisational capability, investment, and prioritisation decisions
• A track record of coaching and mentoring architects, technical leads, project teams, and stakeholders to achieve successful business outcomes
• Experience fostering innovation, continuous improvement, and architectural maturity across teams and organisations
• The ability to think strategically and holistically, while connecting contextual, conceptual, logical, and physical views to drive capability uplift and enterprise outcomes
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear and actionable business insights for both technical and non-technical audiences
