Job summary

Callaghan Innovation’s Processing Workshop in Wellington is seeking an Engineering Technologist to support biotechnologies and glycosynthesis research. You will help maintain and modify processing equipment, and design bespoke components for pilot-scale operations used in food, bioprocessing, and pharmaceutical contexts.

You will work with scientists and engineers, applying your fabrication and welding skills across multiple disciplines to meet evolving research needs while upholding safety and

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification in fabrication, light fabrication, machining or related disciplines.
  • Broad workshop experience covering welding, fabrication, machining or assembly.
  • Proven stainless steel welding skills to meet food and bioprocessing industry standards.
  • Understanding of pumps, valves, steam and water fittings and motor assemblies.
  • Experience in sanitary (food) processing environments.
  • Self-motivated, organised approach and commitment to a safe, tidy workspace.

Responsibilities

  • Shape how the workshop operates and identify opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to understand and interpret requirements.
  • Develop and modify services and processing equipment for research applications.
