Job description

Career Area: Engineering Job Description: Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc. When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do - but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here - we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Engineering Project Manager: Drive Global Earthmoving Technology Innovation

Are you ready to transform the earthmoving industry by leading the development of core software and hardware system components for an international system integration team within our Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT) division? Join us to drive cutting-edge technology from concept to market, making a tangible impact on global construction and mining operations.

About Us:

The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning and control products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GPS, optical total stations, lasers, and sonics. The products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance.

What Makes This Role Great:
Empowered to Challenge and Lead:

You will be empowered to challenge and elevate the program management function within CTCT while leading complex, high-impact projects that directly drive customer success and T5 operational outcomes.

Systems-Level Integration & Product Direction:

In this role, you will bridge engineering, hardware, software, and product teams to guide new product introductions (NPI) from concept to commercialization. Success requires working at the system level - partnering with software, hardware, and installation solutions teams to architect and integrate complex components into cohesive, market-ready solutions.

Delivering Unique, Sellable Systems:

You won't just track deliverables; you will translate multi-disciplinary technology streams into unique, sellable systems. By aligning hardware design cycles, software releases, and system validation, you will directly influence product strategy and deliver scalable systems that solve complex customer challenges.

Key Exciting Responsibilities
  • Drive the development of core system components, leading an international system integration team through the established phase gate process (T5).
  • Spearhead project planning by coordinating work breakdown, estimation, and resource requirements to build and maintain clear master product schedules.
  • Ensure project success by actively managing resources, team dynamics, and change control to meet established schedules, cost targets, and contractual objectives.
  • Proactively monitor project needs, identify risks, and execute mitigation plans, communicating key insights to senior management and product teams.
  • Champion organisational accountability for following the T5 outcome process across product teams.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on technical project management experience within cross-functional teams and software development organisations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, proactively identify issues, and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Bonus Points For Experience with Agile software development, including backlog planning and value team facilitation.
  • A recognised Project Management certification.
  • Background working internationally with diverse cultures.
