Job summary

Greater Wellington is seeking a committed Engineering Officer to join the Environment Group at our Upper Hutt depot. You will help maintain assets to the service levels agreed with the council, partners and stakeholders, and support asset management information systems and work planning.

You will lead and supervise staff on assigned projects, provide engineering support for investigations and operations, and advise the public and authorities on operational matters, including flood risk response.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification such as NZDE or NZCE (Civil) or civil/river engineering background.
• Experience in supervising staff and communicating with diverse stakeholders.
• Familiar with asset management systems and reporting.
• Clear written and verbal communication; ability to tailor messages by audience.
• Willing to work outdoors in all weather.
• Able to navigate remote private land and rugged terrain.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and wellbeing and following procedures.

Job description

We're looking for a committed and focussed Engineering Officer to join our friendly Assets and Performance team in the Environment Group. This full-time permanent position is based in our Upper Hutt depot.

About the role:

As Engineering Officer, you will work closely with the wider Environment Group to ensure that assets are maintained and managed to the level of services agreed with Greater Wellington's council, partners and stakeholders.

You will support the objective of best practice asset management by assisting with the management of Greater Wellington's asset management information system and work planning. You will provide engineering support to investigations, the operation and maintenance of our assets and networks, and the construction of infrastructure, specifically providing leadership and supervision to operational staff on assigned projects. You will also provide advice to the public, territorial local authorities and others on operational matters and have a role in the operational response to flood risk.

Skills and experience required:

• Preferably a relevant tertiary qualification such as NZDE or NZCE (Civil), or experience in a civil or river engineering background in the fields of construction and project supervision.
• Experience at managing staff with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people at all levels.
• Experience in asset management systems and associated procedures, processes and reporting.
• Clear, articulate communication skills, both verbally and written, coupled with the ability to understand the need to target communications to a level appropriate for the audience.
• Happy to work outdoors in all weather
• Confident navigating remote private land, including walking across rugged terrain and rivers
• Good understanding of Health, Safety and Wellbeing and able to follow procedures, practices and processes.

The total remuneration for this position, including all benefits, is $80,579 to $120,868 with a midpoint of $100,724. Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
