Job summary

Kernel is seeking an Engineering Manager in Auckland to lead, coach and grow a high performing engineering team. You’ll work with product and design to scale our fintech platform, while focusing on people, process and delivery.

This hybrid role values ownership and clear communication; you’ll help set team rhythms, enable engineering excellence, mentor engineers and drive outcomes used by thousands of New Zealanders.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of people management experience.
• Technical understanding to support engineering teams without being hands-on in code.
• Experience in agile environments with cross-functional delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and support a team of engineers across different disciplines.
• Create a high-trust, high-performance environment where engineers know what is expected and can do their best work.
• Run strong people rhythms, including one-on-ones, feedback conversations, development planning and performance support.
• Partner with Product, Engineering and senior leaders to support delivery and remove blockers.
• Help hire, onboard and grow engineering talent as Kernel scales.
• Support engineers to lift engineering practices and maintain high standards of quality, reliability and accountability.
• Work closely with Product, Design and Engineering teams to deliver meaningful customer outcomes.
