Job summary

ACCIONA Infrastructure in New Zealand seeks a lead design professional to drive concept design for tenders and oversee the design team through delivery. You will coordinate with design consultants, construction and estimating teams to ensure constructible, cost-effective solutions and timely bid submissions.

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, you will manage risk, approvals and quality outcomes across complex projects, influencing time, cost, safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering, architecture or construction management.
• Experience delivering complex design-and-construct projects.
• Proven design management in major construction or infrastructure.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and design consultants.
• Strong stakeholder, communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead concept design and tender design programs for each bid.
• Manage design consultants, including contracts, variations and performance reviews.
• Review design outputs for constructability, cost, safety and tender compliance.
• Coordinate design, construction and estimating teams to keep bids aligned; control design scope and budget, and lead value engineering.
• Identify design risks early and brief the Bid Manager and stakeholders.
• Secure design approvals, then lead the design team into delivery.

About the Opportunity

You will lead concept design for tenders, shaping solutions that are constructible, cost-effective and safe. As the single point of contact for design consultants, you will manage their commercial and technical performance, flag design risks to the Bid Manager and secure approvals from clients and authorities. When bids are won, you will move into delivery and see your design through. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager and lead the design team, with real influence over time, cost, safety and quality outcomes across complex projects.
