Description du poste

Emergency Department Urgent Care Specialists - Fixed Term - 6 months

Emergency Department Urgent Care Specialists | Fixed term, 6 months | Various FTE

  • Make a real difference in a busy, evolving Emergency Department, with flexible clinical shifts and the support of Emergency Medicine consultants at Gisborne Hospital.

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

Come and join the Emergency Department at Gisborne Hospital at an exciting time of growth. As our patient numbers increase, including a growing proportion of urgent care and lower-acuity presentations, we are seeking Urgent Care Specialists to strengthen our team on a six-month fixed-term basis, with various FTE opportunities available.

This role will suit doctors who are confident making timely clinical decisions, comfortable undertaking minor procedures, and enjoy working in a friendly, fast-paced environment. We welcome applications from doctors with general practice, urgent care or rural medicine backgrounds.

You will focus on urgent care and lower-acuity presentations, while the main Emergency Department remains staffed by Emergency Medicine consultants. Higher-acuity and complex presentations, including cardiac, neurological and trauma cases, are managed within the main ED. Full laboratory and X-ray services are available, supported by skilled and enthusiastic nursing colleagues, and an ED consultant is always available for escalation or advice.

Clinical hours may be arranged across potentially flexible or split shifts between 9am and 9pm on weekends and some weekdays. We are looking for regular, reliable clinicians and aim to offer a high degree of scheduling flexibility, making this an attractive opportunity to combine meaningful clinical work with time to enjoy Tairāwhiti.

Based on the eastern coast of Aotearoa New Zealands North Island, Tairāwhiti offers a lifestyle that is hard to beat. Gisborne is the first city in the world to see the rising sun of a new day, with golden-sand beaches, bush-clad ranges, productive farmland, significant historic places and a deep connection to Māori culture. Short commutes, a pleasant climate and an easy-going pace mean there is more time for life beyond work.

Our Tairāwhiti health service is focused on stronger collaboration, leadership and accountability, improving equity of access and outcomes, and supporting more people to receive care close to home. Our WAKA values reflect our voyaging heritage and guide how we work together: Whakarangatira | Enrich, Awhi | Support, Kotahitanga | Togetherness, and Aroha | Compassion.
