Job summary

Savista is seeking an Eligibility Specialist 2 to assist patients in navigating financial assistance programs. The role involves assessing eligibility, guiding applicants through government and charity-funded programs, and ensuring HIPAA-compliant recordkeeping.

You will work with hospital staff to resolve coverage issues and help patients access needed care. The position requires in-person patient visits, strong organizational skills, and bilingual English/Spanish capabilities, with weekend

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • At least 2 years in a customer-facing role, preferably healthcare/financial counseling.
  • Must obtain Public Notary license within 3 months of hire.
  • Willing to complete in-home patient visits within assigned market area.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with patients in-person, including bedside visits, to assess eligibility and guide programs.
  • Facilitate Medicaid, Medicare, Disability, and Charity Care applications with timely, accurate documentation.
  • Liaise between patients, hospital staff, and government agencies to establish eligibility and secure funding.
  • Manage multiple cases, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely follow-up on applications.
  • Clearly communicate obligations, funding options, and program details empathetically to patients.

Employment Type: Full-Time, non-exempt

Pay Range: $20.00-$21.00 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 10:00am-6:30pm

The position requires participation in a rotating weekend coverage schedule, shared among three team members, with weekend responsibilities occurring approximately one out of every three weekends. (Schedule flexibility required to meet business needs)

What You’ll Do
  • Meet with patients in-person, including bedside visits, to assess financial assistance eligibility and provide compassionate guidance on available programs.
  • Facilitate the application process for programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, Disability, and hospital Charity Care, ensuring timely submission of accurate documentation.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, hospital staff, and government agencies to establish eligibility, secure funding and resolve coverage issues.
  • Manage multiple patient cases, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and ensure effective follow-up on pending applications.
  • Clearly communicate financial obligations, funding options, and program details to patients in an empathetic and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Consistently achieve productivity and quality metrics, contributing to the organization's financial counseling objectives.
  • Efficiently use multiple systems and databases to gather, track, and report on patient data.
  • Assist with vacancy coverage, as needed.
  • Complete special projects, as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish
  • At least 2 years of experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in healthcare or financial counseling.
  • Must be able to obtain license to become a Public Notary, within 3 months of hire date.
  • Must be comfortable completing in-home patient visits within assigned market area.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and empathetically.
  • Ability to identify solutions to financial challenges, leveraging program knowledge to benefit patients.
  • Demonstrate genuine care for patients’ needs and concerns, building trust and rapport.
  • Work effectively with colleagues, hospital staff, and external agencies to achieve shared goals.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel within assigned service area.
