Our team is made up of talented engineers and physicists, based in Wellington, New Zealand.

About the Role

JoinOpenStar'sElectronics team to help design, prototype, and test the embedded electronics hardware that powers our fusion systems, from schematic capture and PCB layout through to bench testing and integration on the machine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design schematics and PCB layouts for embedded electronics subsystems, spanning analogue signal conditioning, power electronics, and digital interfaces
  • Build and solder PCBs forinitialhardware prototypes
  • Apply good engineering judgement tocomponentselectionand design trade-offs, escalating to the Lead of Electronics where appropriate
Control System Simulation
  • Use Simulink (or equivalent tools) to model and simulate closed-loop control systems for the hardwareyou\'redeveloping
Testing & Validation
  • Deploy and test hardware in realistic environments, including under cryogenic and vacuum conditions where relevant
  • Write and execute test plans, capturing results clearly andidentifyingfailure modes methodically
  • Support integration with real superconducting systems
Key Relationships
  • Lead of Electronics
  • Firmware Engineering - collaboration on embedded systems and hardware/software interface debugging
  • Mechanical Engineering Team - coordination on physical layout and thermal constraints
  • HTS Rectifier / Subsystems teams - integration of electronics into wider systems
What We're Looking For

This opportunity boils down to the chance to work on something truly meaningful. The scariest thing about the climate crisis today is that, forall ofour bluster and protest, there are very few of us whoactually havea chance to do meaningful work solving this problem.
