Job summary

Fonterra Te Mātāpuna seeks two experienced Electrical Technicians to join our Kapuni and Whareroa sites in Taranaki. You’ll perform electrical maintenance, fault finding, breakdown response, and preventative tasks across manufacturing and utilities equipment within a safety-focused team.

Ideal candidates hold NZ Registered Electrician status with current licence, EST certification, and instrumentation experience.

Qualifications

  • NZ Registered Electrician with a current practising licence.
  • Electrical Service Technician (EST) Certification.
  • Instrumentation qualification and/or proven industrial instrumentation experience.
  • Proven industrial electrical experience in FMCG/manufacturing environments.
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out electrical maintenance, fault finding, breakdown responses and preventative maintenance across manufacturing and utilities equipment.
  • Work with automated manufacturing equipment and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with maintenance team to ensure safe, reliable site operations.

About the Opportunity | Mō tēnei tūranga

We're currently seeking two experienced Electrical Technicians to join our manufacturing sites in Taranaki, with opportunities available at both our Kapuni and Whareroa sites.

Operating in a quality-focused manufacturing environment, you'll play a critical role in ensuring plant reliability, safety, and performance. As part of our Maintenance Team, you'll be responsible for carrying out electrical maintenance, fault finding, breakdown response, and preventative maintenance activities across a range of manufacturing and utilities equipment.

Working with industry-leading automated technology, you'll use your strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability, plant performance, and operational efficiency.

This is a hands‑on role where no two days are the same. You'll work both independently and collaboratively with a skilled team to deliver safe and reliable outcomes for our site operations.

Site‑Specific Requirements
Kapuni
  • NZ Registered Electrician with a current practising licence
  • Electrical Service Technician (EST) Certification
  • Instrumentation qualification and/or proven industrial instrumentation experience
Whareroa
  • NZ Registered Electrician with a current practising licence
  • Industrial electrical experience within a manufacturing environment

You're a proactive and safety‑focused Electrician who enjoys solving problems and takes pride in keeping equipment running at its best. You can confidently work autonomously when required while also contributing positively within a close-knit maintenance team.

You'll bring strong fault‑finding capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a desire to continuously improve both plant performance and the way work gets done.

What You'll Bring
  • NZ Registered Electrician (Certificate in Electrical Engineering Level 4 or higher) with a current practising licence
  • Proven industrial electrical experience, ideally within FMCG, manufacturing, dairy, food processing, energy, or heavy industrial environments
  • Strong fault‑finding and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working with automated manufacturing equipment
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems such as HMI, PLCs, and SCADA
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Highly Regarded
  • Experience with preventative and predictive maintenance programmes
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience in a highly automated manufacturing environment
