Job summary

Amcor is seeking an Electrical/Automation Engineer to collaborate with the engineering team to advance automation on current machines, design solutions for new installations, and tailor site-specific outcomes.

You will work on capital upgrade projects, develop training materials, and ensure compliance with electrical codes while supporting maintenance and safety initiatives across the site.

Qualifications

  • 0–4 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment or similar field.
  • Electrical Code training or other safety training seminars and courses.
  • Education: Electrical, Mechanical, CS&E, Controls/Automation Engineering or related technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as electrical engineering resource to troubleshoot machine control problems with Maintenance Technicians.
  • Liaises with external technical resources to problem solve and implement solutions.
  • Develops training documentation for solutions and safe procedures.
  • Manages machine and equipment upgrade projects from investigation to start-up.
  • Learns new capital equipment operation and controls to support maintenance.
  • Assists Project Engineering with equipment installation, checkout, start-up and training.
  • Ensures safe work practices per National/State electrical codes and NFPA70E.
  • Supports preventative maintenance on electrical substations and high voltage switchgear.
  • Participates in safety, quality, service, and cost improvement teams.

Job Description

The primary purpose will be working with the engineering team to further develop and improve the software on current machines, design automation solutions for new installations and provide customization for site‑specific outcomes.

  • Acts as an electrical engineering resource to assist Maintenance Technicians troubleshoot machine control problems when additional resources, skills, or knowledge are required to solve the problem.
  • Focal person to work with external technical resources, when necessary, to problem solve and implement solutions.
  • Develops training documentation of solutions and safe procedures to communicate with all Maintenance Technicians.
  • Manages machine and equipment upgrade projects including investigations, cost estimates, installations, and start-up. This can include expense type projects as well as capital upgrade projects.
  • Learns new capital equipment operation, controls structure/design, and hardware in order to build knowledge and proficiency to support and implement effective maintenance.
  • Assist Project Engineering with equipment installation, checkout, start-up and training as necessary.
  • Secures, maintains, and applies knowledge of current industry practices for safe work practices and safe equipment operation. Examples are National and State Electrical codes and NFPA70E (arc flash) codes.
  • Key resource for the completion of preventative maintenance on electrical substations and high voltage switchgear. This includes documentation of observations, testing, and follow‑up actions.
  • Participates as a team member on equipment project teams, safety teams, and continuous improvement teams to continuously improve operations (including safety, quality, service, and costs).
What We Value
  • Good project management, problem solving, troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to use a personal computer and office suite software
  • CAD skills are preferred
  • Knowledge of plant power distribution, control systems, and PLC’s
  • Ability to use measuring devices, read mechanical/electrical drawings, develop and use charts and schedules
  • Ability to be a self‑starter and take action on projects proactively
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to interact with plant personnel at all levels.
  • General training or understanding of industry safety work practices
