Deliver essential projects that power New Zealand's energy future.

Wiri Oil Services Ltd (WOSL) plays a vital role in the safe, secure, and efficient delivery of jet and ground fuels to some of New Zealand's most important energy hubs. We operate one of the country's most critical fuel storage and distribution networks, including Major Hazard Facilities (MHF) in Wiri and Marsden Point.

We're now seeking a Project Engineer to join our tight-knit, high-performing engineering team. This is a role where your technical skill, attention to detail, and commitment to safety will directly influence the resilience of the nation's fuel infrastructure

About the Role

This is a hands-on, site-based engineering role where you'll lead a variety of capital, maintenance and improvement projects. You'll work closely with internal teams and external contractors to ensure all works meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards, and are delivered on time and to budget.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop business cases, conduct feasibility studies, and secure project approvals
  • Prepare tenders, evaluate submissions, and manage contractor selection
  • Oversee project delivery from planning through execution and closeout
  • Manage project budgets, risks, and schedules, with regular reporting to leadership
  • Maintain asset data in engineering systems and registers
  • Contribute to engineering audits and ensure documentation is up to date
  • Promote and model best practices in health, safety and environmental compliance
  • Provide backup to operations and maintenance teams when required

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a practical, adaptable engineer with a drive for excellence and a mindset for continuous improvement.

Ideally, you'll offer:

  • A degree or diploma in mechanical, process, or general engineering
  • A solid foundation of 3+ years in project engineering or project management, ideally within complex or safety-critical environments.
  • Project management experience in a plant, terminal, or heavy industrial setting
  • Strong understanding of engineering documentation, permits, and NZ regulations
  • Familiarity with AS/NZS standards and 2D CAD systems
  • Solid budgeting, planning, and contractor management skills
  • Experience working with permit-to-work systems and HSE compliance
  • Knowledge of HSNO and/or PECPR regulations
  • A team-first attitude with strong communication and relationship skills

Prior experience in the oil industry, hazardous goods storage, or similar regulated environments (e.g. water, dairy, chemical) is a bonus but not essential.
