The Role:

Based at our Christchurch site, you will maintain a large ammonia refrigeration plant and ensure our operations comply with all Wattie's Food Safety, Environmental, Health and Safety, and Ethical policies, programs, and goals.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Complete tasks to ensure the engine room refrigeration operates efficiently.
  • Perform maintenance safely and in a timely manner.
  • This is a hands-on position, and from time to time, you will supervise staff and contractors in an ammonia plant room.
  • Safely evacuate plant/pipework for maintenance.
  • Assist electrical staff in any areas of the plant room and be on call 24 hours when required.
  • Complete weekly safety alarm testing.
  • Carry out computer work regarding SOPs & TRAs for future training.
  • Ensure all compressors have sufficient oil and are topped up.
  • Assist shift fitters with setup and operation.
  • Perform daily defrosting of all stores to ensure temperatures are within specifications.
  • Assist Production and Engineering teams when required.
  • Complete any other tasks as requested.
Your Skills:
  • Completed an apprenticeship in industrial refrigeration (Ammonia).
  • Completed Refrigeration-Enchem Level 4 qualifications.
  • Understanding of factory operation and layout, with specific knowledge of the plant room.
  • Sound knowledge of H&S (e.g., H&S rep for Engineering).
  • Practical mechanical skills and experience, including the ability to read drawings.
  • Experience in heavy machinery operation.
