About The Role
We are recruiting for a Physician with experience and specialty qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. This role will work within the Health in Ageing service based at Tauranga Hospital, providing acute, rehabilitation and elective services for older people.
Clinical responsibilities in the department include management of patients admitted for acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, ambulatory clinics, clinics, consultations across other specialities (including a dedicated Orthogeriatrics service) and providing telephone advice to primary care and other specialist clinicians. There are teaching opportunities across undergraduate (years 4-6) and postgraduate (basic and advanced trainees) medicine.
About the Team/Service/Location
Tauranga Hospital is a 359-bed hospital which provides acute adult medical service with support from resident specialists in Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, Oncology, Haematology and Renal services.
The successful candidate will join a department of Physicians, Junior Medical Staff, Allied Health and Nurses who provide specialist services to older adults. The department encourages clinicians to undertake their subspeciality interests (orthogeriatrics, stroke, Parkinson’s, movement disorders, acute care of older adults and rehabilitation).

About You
Candidates with sub-speciality qualification and experience in Gerontology are welcomed. Trainees completing training within the next six months are also invited to apply.
We would also welcome enquiries from potential applicants who would be interested in potentially combining a role in Geriatric Medicine with Acute Stroke or General Medicine as we are concurrently recruiting in these specialties.
Applicants must hold or be eligible for, vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council.
