We're expanding our services to provide skilled Water Treatment Plant Operators who will help ensure the region's water systems run efficiently and meet the highest standards.

In this unique role, you'll work closely with Waitaki District Council, performing operational tasks while SouthRoads handles administration. This is your opportunity to contribute to a community-focused initiative and gain hands-on experience with advanced water treatment technologies.

What You'll Do

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Routine Water Treatment Plant operations and maintenance.
  • Working with a variety of systems, including UV units, chlorine dosing, ultrafiltration membranes, ozone dosing, cartridge filtration, pumps, bore pumps, switchboards, SCADA technology, and more.
  • Assisting Council staff with water quality reticulation-related works.
  • Conducting annual backflow certification for approximately 20 backflow preventers.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who is:

  • A self-starter who is motivated, practical, and eager to learn.
  • Level-headed, public-health-conscious, and takes pride in their work.
  • A strong team player who takes ownership, follows instructions well, and prioritizes safety.

Qualifications

We will support the right candidate in achieving the necessary certifications. You'll train towards or already hold:

  • NZ Certificate in Water Treatment (with potential for the Diploma in Water Treatment).
  • Backflow IQP.
  • BA gear, confined space, and working at heights certifications.
  • Forklift license and HSNO/hazardous substance handling certification.

Why Join Us?

This is a rare chance to step up, lead a small team, and work with cutting-edge technology at Waitaki District Council's state-of-the-art facilities. With significant investment in upgraded water treatment plants, including a membrane treatment plant serving 15,000 residents, you'll be part of a team committed to providing water that meets New Zealand Drinking Water Standards.
