Water Treatment Plant Operators who will help ensure the region's water systems run efficiently and meet the highest standards.
In this unique role, you'll work closely with Waitaki District Council, performing operational tasks while SouthRoads handles administration. This is your opportunity to contribute to a community-focused initiative and gain hands-on experience with advanced water treatment technologies.
What You'll Do
Your responsibilities will include:
- Routine Water Treatment Plant operations and maintenance.
- Working with a variety of systems, including UV units, chlorine dosing, ultrafiltration membranes, ozone dosing, cartridge filtration, pumps, bore pumps, switchboards, SCADA technology, and more.
- Assisting Council staff with water quality reticulation-related works.
- Conducting annual backflow certification for approximately 20 backflow preventers.

- Level-headed, public-health-conscious, and takes pride in their work.
- A strong team player who takes ownership, follows instructions well, and prioritizes safety.
Qualifications
We will support the right candidate in achieving the necessary certifications. You'll train towards or already hold:
- NZ Certificate in Water Treatment (with potential for the Diploma in Water Treatment).
- Backflow IQP.
- BA gear, confined space, and working at heights certifications.
- Forklift license and HSNO/hazardous substance handling certification.
