Job summary

Auckland Council's Auckland Zoo is seeking a Team Leader for Ectotherms to guide the team in exceptional animal care, habitat design and conservation outcomes. You will oversee standards, lead staff, manage budgets and contribute to field conservation efforts.

The role requires strong leadership, extensive animal management knowledge, and collaboration across the zoo and partners to deliver engaging visitor experiences.

Qualifications

• Degree or certificate in zookeeping or related field.
• Extensive zoo or related industry experience required.
• Experience leading a large team and managing rostering, budgets, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop and support the ectotherms team with high performance.
• Oversee animal care, habitat design and species planning.
• Collaborate on exhibit planning, visitor experiences and conservation advocacy.
• Build specialist expertise and contribute to field conservation and research.
• Manage rostering, budgets, records and reporting; ensure compliance.
