Job description

Full-time, Fixed-term position for 1 year
Christchurch-based position, with fieldwork across Canterbury and occasional remote work

About Us

Keystone Ecology is a Christchurch-based ecological services company specialising in native habitat restoration, weed and pest control, and biodiversity monitoring. We work across Canterbury on a wide variety of projects with a strong focus on practical, science-based conservation outcomes.

We’re currently seeking several motivated and capable Ecology Field Workers to join our team for a 1-year fixed-term contract. If you’re passionate about the environment, enjoy working outdoors, and want to contribute to meaningful ecological work, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

This full-time, field-based position involves a variety of ecological restoration activities, with a strong focus on:

  • Pest plant control
  • Native planting and habitat restoration
  • Biodiversity monitoring and data collection.

You’ll be based in Christchurch but should be prepared to work away from home in remote locations for periods of up to 7 days (although typically one week per month).

What We’re Looking For

Essential Attributes:

  • A tertiary qualification in Ecology, Conservation, or a related field
  • Experience in practical, field-based ecological work
  • Passion for the outdoors and conservation
  • Knowledge of ecological processes and plant identification (native and pest species)
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in all weather and terrain
  • Current full manualdriver’s license and ability to confidently drive manual transmission vehicles.
  • Comfortable and experienced working with agrichemicals (Grow Safe certification required, or willing to obtain)
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and team-oriented mindset

Desirable Skills:

  • First aid certification
  • Experience using GPS or mobile field data collection tools
  • Chainsaw, ATV, or 4WD operation certification
  • Experience with small mammal fieldwork

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 4:30pm. These are typical work hours only – flexibility may be needed for occasional jobs and extended field trips.
