Job summary

A restoration consultancy based in Christchurch is seeking full-time permanent Ecological Restoration Team Leaders. You will lead teams in pest control and planting, mentor and train staff, while ensuring health and safety. The role also involves liaising with client representatives and stakeholders. Overview

Wildlands is seeking full-time permanent Ecological Restoration Team Leaders who will be based out of our Christchurch office. The role is to lead small teams in the field undertaking ecological restoration works, comprising: pest plant control, pest animal control and planting. You will be mentoring and training staff, leading by example, undertake basic reporting and record keeping, ensuring the health and safety of your team, and encouraging and maintaining a positive team culture. There will be opportunities for liaising with client representatives and other stakeholders including the general public and community groups.

Responsibilities
  • Lead small teams in the field undertaking ecological restoration works (pest plant control, pest animal control and planting).
  • Mentor and train staff, lead by example, and support staff development.
  • Undertake basic reporting and record keeping; ensure health and safety of the team.
  • Encourage and maintain a positive team culture and effective team dynamics.
  • Liaise with client representatives and other stakeholders including the general public and community groups.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • At least two years of restoration experience; professional work ethic and effective communication to team, supervisor and manager.
  • Excellent planning and problem-solving skills; positive and efficient work ethic.
  • Ability to work with agrichemicals (herbicides), vertebrate toxins (poisons), and traps; appropriate training provided for specialist areas (e.g., Controlled Substance Licence).
  • Regular requirement to stay away up to a week at a time in shared, sometimes basic, accommodation.
  • Genuine interest in outdoor work and achieving restoration goals; mentoring skills and experience training staff.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to work independently and within a team.
  • Decision making and problem-solving skills; strong work ethic and health & safety consciousness.
  • Handheld GPS and use of mobile apps (e.g. TrapNZ and ArcGIS Field Maps).
  • Basic Excel and report writing ability; good level of fitness and outdoor skills (tramping, hunting, etc).
  • Full NZ driver’s licence (manual) and ability to tow a trailer.
  • Preferred: CURRENT relevant qualifications and experience including Growsafe (Standard or Registered Chemical Applicator), First Aid, Chainsaw, 4WD, Controlled Substance Licence (CSL), ATV and SiteSafe passport.
  • A full manual driver’s license is essential.
