Job description

At Waiapu Kids Te Hapara we are developing and implementing, an innovative model of early childhood education that empowers tamariki and whānau to realise their aspirations and enhance their wellbeing. As the ECE Team Leader you will support the ECE Centre Manager in leading and embedding the model within the team’s practice to shape the future of Waiapu Kids Te Hapara Whānau Aroha.

Waiapu Kids Te Hapara Whānau Aroha is a licensed Early Childhood Centre in Tairāwhiti that provides care and education for up to 50 children from 8.30am to 3.00pm each weekday. Waiapu Kids Te Hapara operates under the umbrella of Anglican Care Waiapu (ACW) which is the social services arm of the Anglican Diocese of Waiapu.

This is a permanent position working 33 hours per week.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

The ECE Team Leader is responsible for assisting the ECE Centre Manager in leading the team to ensure the safety and wellbeing of tamariki while providing quality education to progress the learning of all tamariki.

You will be an experienced teacher with a sound understanding of quality teaching and learning practices and an ability to model and develop this in others. This pivotal position requires someone with exceptional interpersonal skills, diplomacy and cultural competence who can support a positive team culture that incorporates the organisation’s values and our vision of oranga ake o te iwi – human flourishing.

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • A qualification in early childhood or primary education, and current NZ teacher registration and certification
  • Prior experience in formal or informal leadership
  • Understanding of and ability to lead the implementation of Tiriti-based practice
  • The skills and experience to engage effectively with tamariki, whānau and community.
  • Good understanding of Te Reo and Tikanga Māori and willingness to continue to grow in this area
  • Sound understanding of the implementation of Te Whāriki and proven ability to assess and plan for children’s learning.
  • Openness to, and willingness to work within a Christian, faith-based philosophy
  • A positive, ‘can do’ attitude
  • NZ residency and appropriate working rights
