Join an ambitious, bootstrapped SaaS company with a mission to empower changemakers through beautifully designed, interactive learning content. They are entering an exciting new growth phase—and are looking for a talented Lead Developer to help take them to the next level.
This is a remote role based anywhere in New Zealand, offering flexibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to have a significant impact on the product, team, and technology as they scale.
As Lead Developer, you’ll work closely with the Head of Technology to guide and support the small but capable engineering team (currently four developers). This role balances hands-on technical contributions with leadership and mentorship responsibilities.
You’ll play a pivotal part in ensuring systems are robust, scalable, and secure, while supporting your team to grow and thrive. Whether it’s troubleshooting production issues under pressure, leading architecture discussions, or mentoring developers—you’ll be the calm, solutions-focused leader who keeps things moving forward.
The intention is to bring on a Senior/Lead Developer that can grow into Tech Lead.
Backend: Ruby on Rails
Infrastructure: Serverless (e.g., Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare Workers)
Proven experience leading or mentoring developers in a technical environment
Solid understanding of modern web architecture, DevOps, and cloud platforms
Calm and confident problem-solver, especially under pressure during production incidents
Excellent communication skills to work across technical and non-technical teams
Bonus: familiarity with Rails, serverless deployments, security and compliance (e.g., SOC2), or SaaS/startup experience
Play a key role in shaping the technology and culture of a scaling SaaS company
