Horizon, based in Palmerston North, is recruiting for a Design Engineer.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Design Engineer Team Leader, you will be responsible for assisting the Design Estimators, Project Managers, and Managers with:

  • Power system studies
  • Design of capital network and external projects
  • Managing customer connection and approval processes
  • Regulatory analysis
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful, candidates will require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering recognized by IPENZ
  • Current Unrestricted Manual NZ Driver's Licence
  • Up to 5 years' experience in Power Distribution industry, including underground design (advantageous but not necessary)
  • Familiarity with load flow simulation software (e.g., DIgSilent Power Factory), overhead line design software (e.g., COLDNeT), Neara
  • Advanced mathematical skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word, with some experience with databases
  • Project management experience
  • High degree of initiative
  • Ability to relate well to staff, customers, and management
  • Decision-making ability
  • Self-motivated and results-focused
  • Ability to think creatively and outside the box
