About The Role

The Merchandise Planner, a key partner within the Merchandise Team, is responsible for analysing and communicating trading performance, developing category strategic initiatives, and managing inventory health through product lifecycle reviews, promotional programs, and inventory management.

This role leads the monthly forecasting and budgeting process, communicating plans that consider current performance and strategic actions to enhance results.

This is a 12-month fixed-term position based in either our Melbourne or Auckland Support Office.

What’s Involved
  • Analyse & communicate actionable insights on trading performance to develop strategies and tactical activities to improve financial outcomes
  • Manage inventory health, including supplier performance and allocation recommendations
  • Review past performance and prepare forward financial plans and budgets
  • Oversee deleted and promotional stock, lifecycle performance, and promotional results to inform decisions
  • Build strong relationships with business partners and stakeholders
  • Partner with the buying team on range reviews and merchandise concept trials to enhance customer experience
  • Communicate results and actions to leadership and manage the formal monthly reporting process
  • Conduct range analysis, review assortment performance, optimize space, and improve clearance outcomes
Who We're Looking For

You should be able to engage and collaborate with stakeholders across functions to ensure strategic goals are met.

You’ll Need
  • Tertiary qualification in finance, economics, or commerce (preferred)
  • Proven experience in merchandise planning or similar roles within large retail environments
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach
  • Strong financial acumen with excellent numeracy and analytical skills
  • Experience in seasonal planning, budgeting, and category management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with Power BI is advantageous
  • High attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Experience with IBM TM1 COGNOS is beneficial
