Job description

FMG is seeking an experienced leader to join our Strategy and Enablement team as the Head of Project Management Office.

This role is based in either Palmerston North or Wellington and reports directly to the Chief Strategy and Enablement Officer (CSEO).

Role Purpose

The Head of Project Management Office is responsible for overseeing and leading the Project Management Office and the broader project management functions within FMG. The role involves supporting the product delivery approach, ensuring successful execution of programmes and projects, developing and implementing project management capabilities, standards, governance, and managing risks across the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead FMG Managers – Project Delivery
  • Develop and maintain FMG’s project management framework, methodology, standards, and reporting processes, adapting to strategic and business needs
  • Support the CSEO in delivering FMG’s annual business plan commitments
  • Ensure projects adhere to established standards and frameworks, providing high-quality advice and consultancy to strategic and Mutual leaders
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Proven success in managing and delivering projects within large, complex organisations, including business and technology change
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills
  • Experience managing project budgets and implementing cost-control measures
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, capable of building relationships and influencing at all levels
  • Exceptional planning, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and articulate ideas clearly
  • An agile mindset, adaptable to change, collaboration, and continuous value delivery
