Job description

Role Summary

We’re seeking a reliable and skilled Finger Joint Operator to join our production team. This role involves operating a finger jointer to produce high-quality timber products by joining shorter lengths of wood into longer, usable lengths.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operate and monitor the finger jointing line, including feeding timber, overseeing glue application, and ensuring correct joint alignment.
2. Perform machine set-ups, changeovers, and adjustments for different product runs and timber sizes.
3. Conduct quality checks during production to ensure joints meet strength, dimension, and visual standards.
4. Identify and report faults or defects, taking early action to prevent waste or downtime.
5. Follow all Health & Safety protocols, including proper PPE use, guarding checks, and manual handling safety.
6. Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area, contributing to safety and efficiency.
7. Complete basic production records and checklists as required.
8. All applicants must pass drug screening, Ministry of Justice checks, and relevant competency tests prior to employment.

Role Requirements

This role suits individuals with experience in timber processing who take pride in producing precise, strong joints and work well within a team. Attention to detail and a safety-first mindset are essential.

Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Experience operating finger jointing equipment.
• Good mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and know when to escalate issues.
• A strong focus on health and safety.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete documentation accurately.
• Physical fitness for repetitive manual tasks.
• Forklift license is advantageous but not mandatory.
