Job summary

Waimakariri District Council in Rangiora is seeking a Duty Planning Supervisor to lead a newly established Duty Planning Team within the Resource Consents and Planning area. The role focuses on delivering timely, accurate planning advice and mentoring Duty Planners to maintain high service quality.

Reporting to the Resource Consents Team Leader, you will coordinate enquiries, pre-application meetings, and consents while guiding a team in a collaborative, customer-focused environment.

Qualifications

• A recognised qualification in Planning, Resource Management, Surveying, or a related field.
• Approximately 4–5 years' experience as a Duty Planner.
• Up-to-date knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991 and related planning legislation
• A proactive leader with strong organisational and time management skills
• Thrives in a collaborative and supportive environment
• Ability to foster positive relationships with applicants, consultants and the public

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate the Duty Planning function, ensuring timely responses to enquiries and applications
• Provide specialist planning advice and support pre-application meetings
• Process resource consents and planning approvals, in accordance with legislation
• Maintain accurate records to support planning processes
• Offer leadership, guidance and assistance to the wider team as needed, contributing to overall service quality
