Job summary

Matakana Estate’s winery bistro and Cellar Door is seeking an experienced Duty Manager to lead the hospitality team, ensuring guest service excellence and smooth daily operations.

You will manage bookings and inquiries, oversee stock and events, and uphold licensing and safety procedures in a hands-on, varied role. A beautiful vineyard setting supports your development of wine and hospitality knowledge.

Qualifications

• At least one year of hospitality experience.
• Current Manager’s Certificate, or LCQ with ability to obtain one.
• Strong communication and team-leadership skills.
• Good organisation and attention to detail.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings and public holidays.
• Interest in wine and local produce would be advantageous.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Duty Manager to join the team at Matakana Estate’s winery bistro and Cellar Door.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who is confident leading a hospitality team, delivering excellent guest service and supporting the smooth daily operation of the venue.

About the role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing daily bistro and Cellar Door operations
• Leading and supporting front-of-house staff
• Delivering warm and professional guest service
• Managing bookings, table service and guest enquiries
• Monitoring stock and assisting with inventory control
• Supporting wine tastings, functions and special events
• Ensuring licensing, safety and operating procedures are followed
• Completing opening and closing duties

About you

We’re looking for someone who has:

• At least one year of relevant hospitality experience
• A current Manager’s Certificate, or an LCQ with the ability to obtain one
• Strong communication and team-leadership skills
• Good organisation and attention to detail
• Confidence working in a busy hospitality environment
• Availability to work weekends, evenings and public holidays when required
• An interest in wine and local produce—wine knowledge would be an advantage
