Ag Assist in Rolleston, Canterbury is seeking a reliable student-friendly dry stock farm worker to support weekend operations on a 140ha block near Rolleston/Burnham. The role follows a 3:11 roster (Friday–Sunday) with every second weekend shifts, starting in November, caring for 600 R2 heifers and 400 R1s, and covering annual leave.

You will help with daily farm tasks, pasture and feed management, tractor operations, and monitoring animal wellbeing to keep the herd moving smoothly.

Qualifications

• Reliable with weekend roster (every second weekend).
• Experience with raising heifers or young stock.
• Knowledge of pasture, grazing and feed management.
• Tractor driving experience is advantageous.
• Animal health and wellbeing knowledge.
• Some irrigation knowledge is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily farm operations during rostered weekends and cover annual leave.
• Manage and monitor young stock and animal health.
• Assist with pasture allocation, feeding, and grazing management.
• Operate farm tractors and assist with machinery tasks.
• Support general maintenance and animal wellbeing tasks as needed.

Description

Ideal for a Lincoln Uni studentWe are seeking a reliable and dependable person to join our team in early November on a weekend farm support role on a 140ha support block near Rolleston/Burnham. The position involves caring for 600 R2 heifers and upcoming 400 R1s, helping manage daily farm operations every second weekend on a 3:11 roster (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), with additional coverage during annual leave and potential for extra shifts. You'll play an important role in supporting the growth and welfare of young stock, contributing to the smooth running of the farm, and working as an essential part of our team.

Requirements

• Reliability and commitment to weekend shifts (every second weekend starting in March)


• Experience with raising heifers or young stock


• Skills in pasture, grazing, and feed management


• Tractor driving experience (advantageous)


• Animal health and wellbeing knowledge


• Some irrigation knowledge (advantageous)
