Job summary

Higgins is seeking an experienced Class 4 Driver to join our Civil Construction team in New Zealand. This hands-on role involves safely transporting materials, plant and equipment, and supporting crews with site work across the Wairarapa region.

You'll perform pre-start inspections, work with forepersons to keep projects on track, and help with earthworks and road maintenance when required. A strong safety mindset and practical, team-focused approach are essential for delivering quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Full Class 4 Driver Licence.
  • Experience operating heavy vehicles in civil construction, roading, or infrastructure.
  • WTR endorsements are advantageous.
  • Class 5 Licence is desirable.
  • Experience in civil construction environments.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Good communication and team-focused attitude.
  • Reliable and willing to do hands-on labouring.
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather.
  • Physically fit and able to undertake manual work.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Class 4 trucks to transport materials, equipment, and machinery to site.
  • Load, unload, and secure plant, machinery, and construction materials.
  • Support crews with civil construction activities.
  • Assist with earthworks, road maintenance, and infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with labouring and site duties to support delivery.
  • Carry out pre-start vehicle inspections and maintain vehicles.
  • Work with Forepersons and Project Teams for efficient delivery.
  • Follow health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
  • Assist with traffic management and site setup as needed.
  • Complete vehicle, plant, and site documentation accurately.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture and safe environment.

Higgins Wairarapa is looking for an experienced and reliable Class 4 Driver to join our Civil Construction team. With a strong pipeline of work across the Wairarapa region, this is a great opportunity to be part of a high-performing team delivering a variety of civil infrastructure projects.

This is a hands‑on role where you'll be responsible for safely transporting materials, plant, and equipment, while also supporting crews with a range of site‑based construction activities. While driving is a key part of the role, you'll also be expected to assist with labouring and general civil construction duties as required to support project delivery.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Operating Class 4 trucks to transport materials, equipment, and machinery to and from site
  • Loading, unloading, and securing plant, machinery, and construction materials
  • Supporting crews with a range of civil construction activities
  • Assisting with earthworks, road maintenance, construction, and infrastructure projects as required
  • Assisting with labouring and site duties to support project delivery
  • Carrying out pre‑start vehicle inspections and ensuring vehicles are maintained to a high standard
  • Working closely with Forepersons and Project Teams to ensure efficient project delivery
  • Following all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements
  • Assisting with traffic management and site set‑up activities when required
  • Completing vehicle, plant, and site documentation accurately and on time
  • Contributing to a positive team culture and safe work environment
What You'll Bring
  • Full Class 4 Driver Licence
