Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Civil Construction Limited – Queenstown, South Island

At Civil Construction, we’re more than a civil construction company — we’re a team driven by Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, and Sustainability. Our focus is on delivering excellence in the industry across the Queenstown Lakes/Central Otago region while building strong, capable crews who take pride in their work.

We’re looking for a Drainage Supervisor who isn’t afraid to lead from the front — someone who thrives on being hands‑on, driving efficiency, and developing their team to achieve outstanding results. Most importantly, you’ll buy into our company vision and values, leading by example and contributing to the positive, professional culture we’re proud of.

About the Role

This role is all about balance: leading on‑site drainage crews while staying actively involved in the work yourself. You’ll mentor and upskill your team, plan and coordinate day‑to‑day activities, and ensure safety, quality, and productivity are at the forefront.

You’ll be hands‑on with:

  • Pressure and gravity‑based infrastructure
  • Utility installations (telecom and power)
  • Reinstatement works

Working closely with management, Team Leaders, and their crews, you’ll be the person who keeps things moving smoothly while keeping standards high and opportunities for improvement in sight. Depending on project size, you may be leading several smaller projects or managing one major contract.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead drainage crews on‑site, providing hands‑on mentoring, training, and upskilling.
  • Use your high‑level operating experience to coach teams in safe, efficient, and correct use of equipment.
  • Plan and oversee daily site activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to a high standard.
  • Drive high QA standards, environmental care, and compliance with company policies.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, project briefings, and foster clear communication across teams.
  • Identify and implement ways to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Support technical delivery: pressure & gravity systems, PE welding, confined space tasks, and utilities.
  • Embrace and promote company processes while ensuring structure and discipline within your team.
  • Build team growth and sustainability by developing skills and fostering teamwork.
  • Champion the company’s vision and values in everything you do — ensuring your team operates with respect, integrity, and a shared sense of purpose.
About You

You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

  • A recognised Drainage Qualification (essential).
  • Proven experience leading drainage crews in civil construction industry
  • A high level of operating experience with the ability to train and mentor others.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and initiative.
  • Patience and commitment to developing your team.
  • Experience with QA processes, documentation, and compliance.
  • A record of successfully delivering projects (several smaller or one large).
  • Clear communication skills and strong leadership presence.
  • A structured, disciplined approach with respect for the environment and our values.
  • Current Class 4 driver’s licence (preferable or Class 2 with desire to upskill to class 4)
  • Be a NZ Citizen, Resident or hold a current NZ Work Visa
Why Join Civil Construction?
  • Be part of a company that truly lives by its values: Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, Sustainable.
  • Work on projects that make a real difference to communities across New Zealand.
  • Take on a leadership role where you can shape your team and see them grow.
  • Competitive remuneration and genuine opportunities for career progression.
  • Health Insurance after 9 months (yes, it covers pre‑existing conditions!)
