St Joseph's School, Kaikoura is a State-Integrated full primary Catholic school teaching students from new entrants to Y8. St Joseph’s is a warm and welcoming Catholic school nestled in the stunning coastal town of Kaikoura, we are seeking a dedicated and passionate Director of Religious Studies (DRS) to join our team. We're a tight-knit community committed to upholding the values of our faith and fostering an environment where every student can grow spiritually, academically, and personally.

This Special Character tagged leadership position combines classroom teaching (likely in our middle/senior school) with responsibility for religious education and our Catholic identity. A willingness and ability to participate in religious instruction appropriate to the special character of the school is a condition of appointment.

We're looking for an inspiring leader to shape the spiritual life of our school. As the Director of Religious Studies, you'll be responsible for:

  • Leading and managing the religious education curriculum.
  • Giving guidance and providing effective leadership in religious education and observances throughout the school.
  • Organizing and celebrating liturgies, Masses, and other spiritual events.
  • Guiding staff and students in their faith journey.
  • Fostering a strong connection between the school and our parish community.
  • Ensuring the Catholic character of our school is vibrant and central to all we do.

The ideal candidate will be a practicing Catholic with a deep commitment to their faith and a genuine love for working with children. You'll need to have:

  • A recognized teaching qualification and a strong background in religious education.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to inspire others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively with staff, students, parents and our parish.
  • Strength in teaching literacy and mathematics.
  • A thorough understanding of the New Zealand Catholic Education system.
