  4. The Auckland War Memorial Museum seeks connection through sharing stories of people, lands, and seas. Auckland Council is seeking a new director for 2023 to join the board and continue this important mahi.
  5. Your leadership and guidance will support the Museum to be the home of our collective remembering and commemoration, inspiring innovation, curiosity, and learning, while also acting as kaitiaki of the building, collections, and taonga.
  6. You will support the Museum in its role as a bi-cultural institution and sector leader.
He kōrero mōu: About you

We seek a director with appropriate skills and experience to contribute to the board and drive the desired outcomes. Key attributes include:

  • Connection and understanding of Auckland’s diverse communities, with experience in engagement and service delivery for the public good
  • Commercial and entrepreneurial experience
  • Understanding of tikanga Māori and experience working with mana whenua, iwi, Māori groups, and organisations
  • Understanding of the Museum's role as a War Memorial

You should have relevant sector experience, an understanding of the Museum's context, and a public service ethos. Personal integrity, moral leadership, and wise decision-making are essential.

The Directors of the museum fulfill functions under the Auckland War Memorial Museum Act 1996, including oversight of financial management, maintenance, development, and supporting the Museum's objectives.
