Job summary

Tradestaff New Zealand is seeking an experienced Directional Driller to join a civil crew in Matamata for an immediate start. The role involves operating directional drilling equipment, setting up and monitoring drilling operations, and following site plans to achieve precise drill paths.

You will work with the crew and supervisor, perform equipment checks, and ensure health and safety standards on site. A WTR endorsement and a valid Class 2 or 4 licence are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating directional drilling equipment.
• Current WTR endorsement.
• Full Class 2 or Class 4 licence is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of health and safety requirements around underground drilling.
• Good practical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
• Reliable, safety-conscious approach to your work.

Responsibilities

• Operating and controlling directional drilling equipment.
• Setting up and monitoring drilling operations to meet project specifications.
• Following plans, drawings and site instructions to achieve the required drill path.
• Monitoring drilling direction, depth and progress throughout the job, working closely with the drilling crew and site supervisor.
• Carrying out equipment checks, basic maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Following health, safety and environmental requirements while keeping the work area safe and tidy.

Pay rate: $32–$37 per hour, depending on experience – paid weekly
