Create and publish engaging social media content that reaches audiences across New Zealand and around the world. Help tell New Zealand's story through strategic digital storytelling, audience engagement, and creative content.

Permanent, Wellington-based role. Help shape New Zealand's voice across social media channels seen around the world.

The full salary range for this role is $79,604 to $93,652 total remuneration, inclusive of our KiwiSaver employer contribution.

About the role

The Digital Content Adviser plays a key role in managing and growing the Ministry's digital presence. You'll work with colleagues in Wellington and around the world to create, publish and optimise content across our digital channels, helping ensure our communications are timely, engaging and aligned with the Ministry's priorities. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys turning complex information into clear, accessible content and who understands how digital channels can be used to reach different audiences. You'll provide advice on digital content and channel management, support campaigns, help maintain content quality, and contribute to the Ministry's digital capability.

Key responsibilities
  • Create, edit, and publish engaging content across MFAT's social media and other digital channels.
  • Advise teams in Wellington and around the world on social media best practice and effective audience engagement.
  • Support the delivery of digital campaigns and major communications initiatives.
  • Help offshore Posts maximise the impact of their social media and digital content.
  • Monitor channel performance and use data and insights to improve reach, engagement, and effectiveness.
  • Lead social media moderation activities and support the management of online communities.
  • Provide quality assurance, content testing, and support for digital platform enhancements.
  • Build digital capability across the Ministry by training and supporting staff who use our channels.
  • Participate in an after-hours social media and other digital channels duties as required.
Qualification and experience

Who are we looking for? Mā wai te mahi nei? You'll be an experienced social media and digital communications specialist who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys turning complex information into engaging, audience-focused content. We're interested in hearing from candidates who have:

  • At least five years' experience in communications, digital content, or social media roles.
  • Proven experience creating and managing content across multiple social media platforms.
  • Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear and engaging content.
  • Strong understanding of social media trends, audience behaviour, and digital content best practice.
  • Experience using analytics and insights to measure success and improve content performance.
  • Confidence working with diverse stakeholders and building strong relationships.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to respond effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience creating video and multimedia content for digital channels would be an advantage.
