Job summary

Pegasus Health in Christchurch is seeking a Development Lead to unite three product teams amid a major technology shift. You will guide engineering decisions, drive delivery through team leads, and shape testing and release practices across critical applications.

You will work with senior stakeholders, coach leaders, and foster a pragmatic engineering culture while exploring AI-enabled improvements that enhance system performance and care delivery across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading software development teams, including managing team leads.
• Strong technical background with the ability to guide engineering decisions and delivery.
• Commercial experience using AI to improve systems, processes, or software delivery.
• Experience delivering and supporting business-critical applications.
• Sound knowledge of software development lifecycle practices, release management, testing, and modern engineering standards.
• Comfortable working with senior stakeholders and balancing competing priorities.
• Confident communicator who can challenge ideas when needed and manage difficult conversations professionally.
• Practical leadership style with strong coaching and performance management skills.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Architects, and key stakeholders to prioritise and deliver work.
• Oversee project delivery, releases, operational support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Coach and develop team leaders, building a high-performing engineering culture.
• Improve development practices, delivery processes, and software quality across the team.
• Identify practical opportunities to use AI to improve systems and ways of working.
