Welbourn School is seeking an exceptional Deputy Principal to join our collaborative leadership team. Working alongside the Principal and Curriculum Facilitator, you will help lead a school where Manaakitanga, Kaitiakitanga and Hauora shape how we care, protect and thrive together.

This is a leadership role for someone who is people-focused, organised, strategic and committed to improving outcomes for every learner.

As Deputy Principal, you will contribute to school-wide leadership across three key areas:

Learning support and operations

Lead effective learning support systems, coordinate targeted interventions and support staff, and ensure school systems and daily operations run smoothly. Oversee key assessment, reporting and health and safety processes.

Wellbeing and pastoral leadership

Lead systems that promote learner wellbeing, inclusion, attendance and positive behaviour. Build strong relationships with ākonga, staff, whānau and external agencies to ensure every child feels safe, valued and supported.

Curriculum collaboration and capability

Work collaboratively with the Principal and Curriculum Facilitator to strengthen teaching and learning. Use assessment information to identify needs, support effective learning design, and build staff capability through coaching, professional inquiry and collaboration.

We are looking for a leader who:
  • Puts learners and people first and is committed to culturally responsive practice and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Understands effective teaching and learning and has sound knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum.
  • Leads inclusion well, with experience supporting diverse learners and working with whānau, MoE, RTLB and other agencies.
  • Is organised and solutions-focused, with the ability to develop effective systems and use data to inform decisions.
  • Builds capability in others through trust, collaboration, coaching and professional inquiry.
  • Is calm, relational and confident, with the professional judgement to deputise for the Principal when required.

If you are ready to make a meaningful contribution to our learners, staff and wider community, we would love to hear from you. School visits welcome; email principal.admin@welbourn.school.nz
