Job summary

The Helier by Oceania in St Heliers, Auckland, is seeking a full-time Demi Chef to join our kitchen team and deliver dining experiences that reflect quality and care for our residents and guests.

You'll work alongside our Executive Chef and wider kitchen team, preparing and cooking dishes to a high standard, supporting service, and developing your craft in a close-knit, resident-focused environments.

Qualifications

  • Culinary training, an apprenticeship or equivalent practical kitchen experience.
  • A genuine passion for preparing food that looks great and tastes even better.
  • An understanding of food safety and safe food-handling practices.
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills.
  • A positive, hands-on approach and willingness to learn.
  • The confidence to ask questions, seek feedback and take responsibility for your work.
  • A team-first mindset - you're ready to support others and step in when needed.
  • Pride in maintaining high standards, even when the kitchen gets busy.
  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts.
  • Relevant Safe Food NZQA qualifications such as 167, 168, 20666 or 27955 would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook dishes to a high standard following recipes, menus and presentation expectations.
  • Support daily service as well as functions, special events and changing menu requirements.
  • Take pride in the quality and presentation of every dish that leaves the kitchen.
  • Work closely with senior chefs, seeking feedback and opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge.
  • Contribute ideas and bring curiosity and creativity to the kitchen.
  • Help ensure ingredients and stock are available at the right quality and quantity while minimising waste.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness in line with our Food Control Plan.
  • Take ownership of your section and follow through on what needs to be done.
  • Work as one team to keep service running smoothly and deliver an exceptional experience for our residents.

We're looking for a full-time Demi Chef to join our kitchen team and help us deliver a dining experience that reflects the quality and care The Helier is known for.

What you'll be doing
