The opportunity:

AIA New Zealand is seeking aDelivery Lead (6 months fixed term contract)to drive strategic initiatives across our business, bringing together diverse teams and cutting-edge technology platforms. In this key leadership role, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering high-value outcomes using a mix of agile and traditional project management approaches. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, guiding cross-functional teams to deliver quality solutions that align with our values, risk appetite, and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities include:

Project Delivery

  • Project Management of key strategic initiatives, including regulatory, digital, process and system enhancements in line with the requirements of the Project Management Playbook and applicable policies.

  • Support Business Owners and Sponsors to achieve project outcomes through principles of good governance, and accurate and transparent reporting.

  • Experience leading a project team through a complex piece of work

  • Ability to build relationships and rapport with a wide range of people

  • Attentive, diligent, process orientated, and methodical, as well as being decisive yet diplomatic.

  • Confidence in managing multiple initiatives with competing priorities

  • Work closely with peers and technology teams to identify and manager interdependencies appropriately

  • Adhere to a defined project management framework and make use of in-house project management platform to ensure accurate reporting on: Finances, Scope, Schedule, People, Risk and Issue management are maintained on a regular basis.

  • Lead the successful delivery of project outcomes which enable the full intended business benefit

  • Work closely with the Project Sponsor and Owner to ensure on-going strategic alignment of delivery and business objectives

  • Effectively manage the relationship with all internal and external stakeholders

  • Ensure vendors deliver to their full contractual obligations.

Team Culture and Capability

  • Contribute to the overall high performance of the PDO team.

  • Provide direction to other project team members and technical staff involved in the solution delivery as appropriate.

  • Ensure all governance requirements are adhered to and documented in a traceable manner.

  • Lead and manage project teams to deliver outcomes and effectively communicate risks and issues in a timely manner.

  • Proactively work with other project managers where your project has inter-dependencies with other projects

  • Motivate and maintain productivity of a high performing team.

Process

  • Adhere to, and support continuous improvement of project management processes and systems.

  • Contribute to the development and use of agile approaches for project delivery

  • Adhere to PDO processes, and use of templates and PM tools

  • Ensure a disciplined approach to project financial management including estimating, tracking and forecasting.

Planning

  • Lead and advise on all planning activities related to the project outcome

  • Facilitate workshops to assist in the planning process

  • Maintain knowledge and expertise in all relevant project methodologies to deliver on-going excellence in project management

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the project management practice.

Risk

  • Actively role model the right risk behaviours by speaking up if something isn't right, reporting all matters issues and incidents, upholding my obligations when it comes to risk and compliance and completing mandatory learning on time

  • Foster a safe and open environment to ensure delivery teams feel comfortable raising any concerns and are heard.

  • Ensure that operational and compliance risks and controls are appropriately identified, documented, and managed in line with AIA’s risk appetite.

  • Provide regular reporting on enterprise-wide delivery risks and issues with action plans.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • At least 5 years of project management experience with sound practical knowledge of project management principles and practices

  • Solid understanding of waterfall and agile project principles.

  • Experience in the financial/Insurance services sectors strongly preferred

  • Applicable Project Management certification preferred

  • Excellent understanding and application of project management methodologies and frameworks, including Agile experience in use of Scrum and/or SAFe delivery methods

  • A good understanding of project management work in today’s dynamic business environment covering project dimensions (People, Process and Technology)

  • Has relevant experience leading agile teams combined with substantial project management experience

  • Ability to lead the development of robust business cases including the articulation of benefits

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise/manage a large team

  • Process Improvement / Six Sigma / Lean experience

  • Organisational Change Management experience
