Job summary

Fusion5 is hiring a Data Engineer to join the New Zealand Data & Analytics team in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. This hands-on role focuses on building end-to-end data platforms and delivering value across Fabric, Azure and Databricks.

You’ll design, implement, and optimize ingestion, transformation, and warehousing, and collaborate with architects, senior consultants and clients to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of hands-on data engineering experience.
• Experience with Fabric, Azure (ADF/ADLS/Synapse) and Databricks.
• Strong SQL and Python with ETL/ELT design and data modelling.
• Experience designing lakehouse/medallion architectures.
• Consulting basics: requirements, documentation, estimating, client comms.
• Quality mindset: delivering right first time with data quality focus.
• Collaborative approach and interest in team culture; NZ work eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Own full delivery streams from design to testing, deployment and handover.
• Build and maintain ingestion, transformation, modelling and warehousing across Fabric, Azure and Databricks.
• Deliver Power BI reports and semantic models as needed.
• Apply best-fit tools for each client rather than default approaches.
• Embed data quality, security and governance into deliverables.
• Contribute to data migrations (CRM/ERP) with Business Applications teams.
• Support clients post go-live with Managed Services.
• Use AI day-to-day to improve delivery and grow team capability.
• Contribute to standards, reusable assets and mentor junior members.
