Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain headworks structures to keep our water supply safe and reliable.
  • Support dam operations with clear communication and operational follow-through.
  • Monitor the hydrological network to meet performance standards and inform decisions.

Looking for a role where you can be outdoors, work with purpose and play a part in supporting Auckland’s water supply? This is your opportunity. As a Dam Technician, you'll spend your time out in some of the region’s most impressive natural environments, working on and around dams. This is a hands-on role where your confidence in outdoor settings and around water, combined with your technical skills, will help you succeed.

In this role, you will:
  • Operate and maintain critical headworks structures to ensure they remain safe and reliable
  • Play a key part in keeping our water supply systems running smoothly through clear communication and operational support
  • Help maintain our hydrological network, ensuring it meets performance standards and supports informed decision-making

We're looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in practical, hands-on work, and feels confident working in and around water environments.

You’ll bring:
  • A relevant technical qualification (or equivalent practical experience)
  • A current full New Zealand driver's licence
  • Ideally, a tertiary qualification in Engineering or Science (helpful, but not essential)
  • Experience working in a similar environment, with a strong focus on safety around water
  • Confidence using computer-based systems and databases
You’ll also be:
  • A strong problem solver who can think on your feet
  • Comfortable working independently, while also contributing to a supportive, close-knit team
  • Reliable, practical, and motivated to deliver high-quality work
