Job summary

MacWilliams Dairies Ltd in New Zealand is seeking a dairy farm assistant to join the team as soon as possible, with the role slated to continue until at least February. Accommodation is available, and the farm operates a 780-cow herd in a Herringbone shed with automatic cup removers, using Halter technology to manage cows.

You will perform milking and farm maintenance tasks, work as part of a team, and adapt to a rural lifestyle.

Job description

We are looking for someone keen to experience our rural NZ lifestyle by joining our dairy farming team starting as soon as possible and able to work until at least February. Accommodation is available.

We milk 780 cows in a Herringbone shed with automatic cup removers. We use Halter technology (Google it) to help manage our cows.

You will be required to work as a dairy farm assistant, a few of the jobs are listed below:

• Milking
• Farm maintenance

Essential skills/Attributes:

• Good attitude - willing to listen and learn.
• Practical skills - have done a physical, practical job before.
• Team player - able to communicate with the team to get jobs done.
• Physically fit - farming is hard work involving more than 9 hours per day working and doing physical jobs.
• Loves animals

Nice to haves:

• some farming experience
• capable of riding a two wheel motorbike or quad.

Our farm is 25 minutes from Oamaru which is our closest town for supermarkets, restaurants etc. Having your own vehicle is essential. Beach 15 mins and Lakes 1 hour travel from farm.
