Job summary

Livestock Improvement Corporation in New Zealand is seeking a Scientist in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to apply advanced AI, ML and data science techniques to dairy farming, transforming LIC's datasets into practical insights and solutions for farmers.

You will collaborate with genetics, animal health, bioinformatics, statistics and software engineering to develop ML models and generative AI tools that improve herd performance and support innovation across products and services.

Qualifications

• PhD or Masters in Machine Learning, CS, Stats or equivalent.
• Experience developing ML models with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Ability to work in a diverse, multi-disciplinary research team.
• Strong communication and ability to plan and run research projects.
• Experience with large-scale data processing in cloud/HPC environments.
• Familiarity with NZ dairy industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply machine learning and AI approaches to dairy challenges.
• Identify opportunities to create insights, phenotypes and products.
• Transform large genomic, animal and farm datasets into actionable outcomes.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging AI technologies for dairy farming.
