Job description

Make Every Interaction Count in This Part-Time Role!

In this part-time role, you'll be the friendly first point of contact for customers calling our call centre, handling a wide variety of enquiries where no two days are the same. Whether you're guiding someone through a service, processing payments, or solving complex issues, you'll be making a real difference every day.

  • Join an organisation committed to a supportive, inclusive culture where every team member makes a meaningful impact.
  • Enjoy a permanent, part-time role (24 hours per week) based in either our Mangawhai or Dargaville office.
  • Work within a collaborative team supported by strong leadership and access to various well-being initiatives.

About the role

As the first point of contact for customers, this role is predominantly focused on responding to phone enquiries. You'll deliver exceptional service by answering a high volume of calls with professionalism, accuracy, and care. While you may also support customers via email, face-to-face, and online channels, your core responsibility will be providing timely and helpful assistance over the phone. You'll also process payments and requests, promote our online services, and play a key role in connecting with and supporting our community.

This permanent, part-time role offers 24 hours per week, ideally spread throughout the week. Perfect for those seeking flexibility, such as school hours, or a better work-life balance.

About you

We're looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a calm and customer-focused approach, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

You'll also bring:

  • At least 3 years' experience in customer service, ideally in a call centre or front desk environment
  • Confidence using computers, phones, databases and Microsoft Office
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently
  • Resilience and adaptability when dealing with diverse customer needs
  • A collaborative and positive attitude that contributes to the wider team

What we offer

Kaipara District Council offers a flexible, supportive, and inclusive team culture within a collaborative environment. We also offer:

  • Competitive salary and laptop
  • An emphasis on career pathways with ongoing professional development, study assistance options, and secondment and promotion opportunities
  • 1 paid day off per year to volunteer in the Kaipara community
  • Staff healthcare, banking and retail discounts
  • A culture of health and wellbeing with free EAP services and regular staff wellness initiatives
  • 5 weeks Annual Leave after 5 years' service

At Kaipara District Council, we're more than just a workplace - we're a passionate team committed to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and healthy community where people love to live, work, and play. We're guided by the values of mahi tahi (teamwork), mana (integrity), pono (trust), whakaute (respect), and mahia te mahi (make it happen), which shape everything we do. These values inspire us to foster an environment where people and communities thrive.

If you're ready to make a real difference and be part of something special, we'd love to hear from you!
