This is a fast-paced, frontline role that's vital to our business. IRD does more than collect taxes - we fund and deliver programmes that support and care for New Zealanders.

You don\'t need to be a numbers expert - what matters is your customer-centric approach to improving customer experience.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Respond to emails and calls from individuals, families, and businesses
  • Help customers understand and meet their obligations
  • Provide solutions and calculate options when communicating plans

We\'re looking for people who are passionate, keen learners and committed to what they do. You\'ll be joining a team of Customer Service Officers who have come from all walks of life who wish to balance study and work - all are welcome!

We currently have opportunities for people to join us as a part-time employees working full-time hours for training, before moving to part-time hours during term time. This allows you to fit your work around university studies.

Start Date: 24 November 2025

Full-time hours: Until approx 20 February 2026 (for training)

Part-time hours: Minimum 20 hours/week during term time may be worked between Monday - Friday: 8am-6:15pm, and Saturday: 8am-5:05pm (minimum 3-hour shifts)

Salary: $60,385 per annum (pro-rated to hours worked)

If you\'re studying in Manukau, Takapuna, Hamilton, Wellington, Upper Hutt, Christchurch, or Dunedin then this could be the role for you!

Additional benefits

Transferable locations: Train in one site and work from another - perfect for visiting the Whanau for the summer and study in another location

Office closures: Statutory holidays and 29-31 December (annual leave required for these 3 days)

You must be available for the full training period (24 Nov 2025 - 20 Feb 2026), excluding public holidays and the Christmas/New Year close-down.

This role may not suit students with study-related work placements that prevent meeting the minimum 20-hour weekly requirement.
