Mōtetūranga| About the role

This is a brilliant opportunity to bring your passion for Te Ao Māori and te reo Māori into a role where you can make a real difference. You’ll help Meridian continue to grow as a Te Tiriti o Waitangi-honouring organisation, supporting work that builds cultural understanding, lifts confidence in te reo Māori, and embeds tikanga in ways that feel practical, authentic and lasting. Working alongside our Kaihautū Māori and the People Team, you’ll help bring Ki Te Hoe o Te Waka o Te Hiringa Kōmata, our company Te Ao Māori strategy, to life through learning, relationships, events and everyday moments that shape how our people connect, grow and work together. From supporting mihi whakatau and poroporoaki to helping coordinate Matariki, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori and other learning experiences, you’ll play a hands‑on role in creating meaningful opportunities for our people to learn and participate. This role would suit someone early in their career who is strong in Te Ao Māori and te reo Māori, brings energy, drive and curiosity, and is excited to grow into the wider culture and capability space over time.

  • You’re strong in Te Ao Māori and confident in te reo Māori, and you’re excited to help others build that confidence too.
  • You understand Te Tiriti o Waitangi and why it matters, and you’re keen to help bring those principles to life in practical workplace settings.
  • You bring energy, drive and initiative, with the organising skills to turn good intentions into things that actually happen.
  • You build relationships in a mana-enhancing way and communicate clearly with a wide range of people, from leaders to teams across the business.
  • You may have experience organising events, activities or learning sessions through work, study, marae, community, iwi or sport.
  • You’re comfortable in front of a group, or keen to build that confidence, and curious about people, culture and how organisations grow.
  • You’re well organised, able to juggle a few things at once without losing the detail, and you follow through on what you commit to.
  • You don’t need to be the finished article. We’re looking for someone with a strong foundation, curiosity and commitment to keep learning, and we’ll coach you as you grow into the wider HR culture and capability space over time.

We value work/life balance, so our flexible work options (where possible) make things easier for you and your whānau. We also offer:

  • An attractive and competitive salary packagethat’sreviewed annually, plus discounts fromseveralpartnership.
  • Southern Cross Healthcare - Wellbeing one insurance, funded scheme for eligible employees to give you that extra peace of mind.
  • Enhanced leave provisions: three company paid days (over the holiday period), enhanced parentalleaveand options to buy up to 12 daysadditionalleave.

We’re a great place to work with meaningful opportunities to grow, contribute, and help shape Meridian’s journey as a Te Tiriti o Waitangi–honouring organisation. We value and live by three ‘How to Be’s’: ‘be gutsy’,working together by ‘being in the waka’ and doing the right thing by ‘being a good human’.

Join a company with a clear purpose, meaningful work, and people who care deeply about the impact we have on Aotearoa. If this role sounds like a fit and you’re keen to help shape Meridian’s cultural capability journey while contributing to New Zealand’s energy future, we’d love to hear from you.
